Men's SCVAC League - Match Two

Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford
Ten brave Harriers made the long journey to Ashford on Monday evening for the 2nd match in the Kent Area League.

We had two victories on the night with Jerry Carnell and Wole Odele in the M60 1500m and M50 Long Jump, respectively. Peter Wishart and Stanley Thomas came second in the M50 Discus and 200m, and Mark Ashby ran his fastest 1500m in two years, dipping below 5 mins to place third in the M50 1500m. Another highlight was a second PB in successive matches for Dom Fiore in the 1500m B string.

The first event was the Discus, where Paris Hunt dropped down an age group to come fourth in the M35 competition. Peter Wishart finished second in the M50 event. With no M60 thrower available, Ray Daniel, after a quick coaching session with Peter, helped to secure a valuable point.

The next event was the 200m where Wole dropped down an age group to come fourth in the difficult M35 A-string. Tim Carter also dropped down two age groups for the B-string and managed to fend off the fast-finishing Paddock Wood runner towards the end, to place fifth. Stanley Thomas came second in the M50 race.

Stanley and Wole were back in the field with Stanley dropping down an age group to come fourth in the M35 Long Jump, stepping in at the last minute for Paris, who had a problem with his hamstring. Wole won the M50 event.

The action moved back to the track where Matthew Preston and Dom came fifth and fourth respectively in the 1500m A and B string races. Mark was third in the M50 race and Jerry won the M60 race. Ian McCarthy had a non-scoring run in the M60 race, finishing in 5:47.5.

The final event was the 4x100m where the quartet of Wole, Tim, Stanley and Mark got the baton round in fifth place to secure two more points for the team leaving us in fourth place on the night and fifth on overall match points.

Special thanks to the Cambridge officiating team of Dave Kitcher, Tony Wright and Richard Mann.
